There is nothing wrong with being angry or sad. How can we do this? By assessing the roots of self sabotage and subconscious thinking.įirst, I’d like to say there’s nothing wrong with being in your feelings. We may not be able to control our thoughts but we can control our reactions to them. They go through addictive cycles where we focus on short term rewards and the chase rather than long term goals. Our brains also store negative thoughts differently than happy ones.

That is your brains priority, it is constantly looking out for stress, hazards etc so it can move us into safety. It’s natural tendency is to think of the worst case scenario so that if it happens to happen it has a plan to get you out. It really comes down to one thing: Our brain wants us to survive. All of those times in years past I wasted energy trying to control them when all I really needed to do was understand them.

We also have no control over our subconscious thoughts. Our brains are wired to think negatively. Fed up with this I started researching the way the brain works. I’d procrastinate or overindulge in food or worrying, then spend the rest of the day feeling horrible that I had done it. In spite of my health choices like exercising daily and cooking my own food from scratch, I found myself self sabotaging in a few different ways. Often we find ourselves in patterns of self sabotage, I know I do. “Treat yourself well.” It’s something we hear over and over and yet it can make us feel incredibly guilty when we’re trying to work towards a greater goal.
